Insurance

Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) participates with many insurance plans.  If the hospital does not participate with your particular insurance plan, you still may have coverage subject to the availability of "out-of-network" benefits. 

If you have specific questions regarding the plans with which the hospital participates or your out-of-network benefits, please call the HSS Insurance Advisory Service at 212.774.2607 or email your question through our online form. 

This program will provide a liaison service between you, your insurance carrier, and the Hospital to provide information regarding your insurance coverage.  Some of our physicians also par with these plans. For more information regarding specific physician practices, please contact the individual physician offices or the Physician Referral Service at 877.606.1555.

Financial Assistance

If you do not have health insurance and are concerned that you may not be able to pay in full for your care, HSS may be able to help.  We provide financial aid to patients based on income, assets, and needs.  In addition, HSS may be able to help you obtain free or low-cost health insurance or work with you to arrange a manageable payment plan.  For more information about financial assistance, please see our Notice of Financial Assistance, or call 212.606.1505.

Specific assistance with understanding and negotiating options under Medicaid managed care is provided in targeted Ambulatory Care Center Clinics.
